February 9, 2016 is Losar (Tibetan Lunar New Year), beginning the year of the Fire Monkey, which is also the birth year of Guru Rinpoche, Padmasambhava. Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche has requested those who are following in the footsteps of Guru Rinpoche to accumulate recitations of the Seven Line Prayer, taking these auspicious conditions as an opportunity to think of and supplicate Guru Rinpoche.
The accumulations will be collected in three different regional groups. Each group has the same 100 million goal to reach by the end of the Monkey Year (February 26, 2017). The three groups are:

- Operation Following Your Footsteps - for all international followers (not in Tibet or Bhutan)
- Operation Skull Garland - for followers in Bhutan only
